From 6 September 2019, when Czech Act No. 207/2019 Coll., which amends Section 31 of the Act on State Citizenship of the Czech Republic, came into force, a person whose at least one parent or grandparent is or was a former citizen of the Czech Republic (or Czechoslovakia) may acquire state citizenship of the Czech Republic by declaration.

According to the data of the Ministry of Interior, the application for obtaining Czech citizenship by descent is increasing every year![1]

In 2019, 1,488 people acquired Czech citizenship by descent
In 2020, 1,661 people acquired Czech citizenship by descent
In 2021, 1,771 people acquired Czech citizenship by descent
