The upcoming amendment to the Czech Citizenship Act could finally change that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acquiring citizenship based on descent is one of the most common ways to obtain Czech citizenship through your ancestors. Yet this system has never been perfect \u2013 for decades, it has contained certain <strong>discriminatory elements<\/strong>. The proposed Czech Citizenship Amendment seeks to <strong>reduce these inequalities<\/strong> y <strong>broaden access<\/strong> to citizenship for a wider group of descendants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does the amendment expand eligibility?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The amendment is highly anticipated, mainly because it would <strong>significantly expand eligibility<\/strong> for Czech citizenship by descent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Up to the fourth generation:<\/strong> Eligibility would extend to <strong>great-grandchildren<\/strong> of former citizens of Czechoslovakia or the Czech Republic.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Children born abroad between 1949 and 1969:<\/strong> The amendment would also cover <strong>descendants of Czech parents born outside of Czechoslovakia between October 1, 1949, and May 7, 1969.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These changes are expected to make it possible for many families who were previously excluded to reconnect with their Czech citizenship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When will the Czech Citizenship amendment be approved?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this stage, it is <strong>not yet certain when \u2013 or even if \u2013 the amendment will be passed.<\/strong> El <strong>Czech parliamentary elections scheduled for early October 2025<\/strong> add uncertainty, as a newly elected government is <strong>not obliged<\/strong> to continue with a bill introduced by its predecessor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While not perfect, the amendment is generally regarded as a <strong>positive and necessary step<\/strong> toward fairer citizenship laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens next?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are <strong>closely monitoring<\/strong> the progress of this amendment.<br>As soon as it becomes clear that the door to Czech citizenship may open for you, <strong>you\u2019ll be the first to know.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new amendment to the Czech Citizenship Act could extend eligibility up to the fourth generation and cover children born abroad between 1949 and 1969.
