1) Pre-Assessment
(2–3 weeks)
The process begins with reviewing your family background and confirming whether citizenship by descent is possible in your case. This includes understanding when and where your ancestor was born, lived, or may have lost or retained citizenship.
The goal is to establish a clear pathway forward before the whole citizenship process begins.
2) List of Required Documents
(2 weeks)
Once eligibility is confirmed, your assigned citizenship manager prepares a personalized list of all documents needed for the application. This includes exactly what documents are required, in what format (originals, apostilles, translations), and why each document matters.
During this stage, we also prepare the Power of Attorney, the application form itself, and the cover letter needed for submission.
3) Collecting Documents
(1–2 months)
This phase varies from person to person. Clients gather foreign documents such as birth and marriage certificates, naturalization records, and apostilles.
Meanwhile, we may assist with obtaining Czech documents — including archive searches if records are older or difficult to locate.
Regular communication helps to keep the process moving steadily, but the pace largely depends on how quickly documents can be requested and received.
4) Final Document Check and Mailing
(2 weeks)
Once all documents are collected, we review them together to confirm that everything is complete and correctly formatted.
After that, the client sends the original or certified documents to our office.
This step ensures that no surprises appear later during official review.
5) Translations and Verified Copies
(2 weeks)
Most foreign documents must be translated into Czech by a certified court translator. In addition, authorities require verified copies of certain documents.
This phase usually takes around two weeks and is handled on our side once we have the materials.
6) Application Preparation
(1–2 weeks)
We assemble the complete application package and ensure all documents connect logically and meet the requirements of the Ministry of the Interior.
Applications can only be filed on specific office days, so scheduling is coordinated carefully.
7) Application Filing and Government Processing
(6–9 months)
Once the application is submitted, the authorities begin their review.
By law, there are formal timelines for issuing decisions, but in practice, processing can take six to nine months, and sometimes longer.
The duration depends partly on workload and partly on whether the authorities request archival investigation — this is common if historical citizenship status needs to be verified.
This is typically the longest stage of the entire process.
8) Registration in the Special Registry in Brno
(2–3 months)
Once citizenship is granted, your birth (and sometimes marriages or divorces) must be registered with the Special Registry Office in Brno.
This is required before applying for a Czech passport.
Preparation, translation, and the registry’s processing time usually take about 2–3 months in total.
9) Deregistration of Permanent Residence
(1–2 weeks)
If the Czech authorities show a permanent residence record, this must be officially deregistered.
We typically arrange this step for clients to avoid unnecessary travel or paperwork.
This step is required and ensures that your new citizenship status is fully and correctly recorded.
10) Final Administrative Step and Passport Application
(1 week)
After registration and deregistration are completed, we prepare final documents and instructions for applying for your passport.
The passport application itself must be submitted in person, either at a Czech embassy or in the Czech Republic.
Summary
While the total time varies, most clients complete the full journey in 8–12 months. The most variable part is gathering documents and the time the authorities require for their review. With guidance and planning, the process moves steadily and predictably.
