What does the Process Look like?
No paperwork nightmares. No confusing rules. Just a friendly team handling the Czech bureaucracy for you.
Reach out and tell us your story. Our colleague Petra will get in touch to learn more about your situation, ask a few initial questions, and explain how the process works.
Based on that, she will send you a personalized price offer – no obligations, just clarity.
Once we agree to move forward, your dedicated citizenship manager will contact you to kick things off. We’ll arrange a power of attorney and create a personalized document checklist – practical for you, and thorough enough to satisfy Czech authorities.
Need help with Czech records? We’ve got it covered – we can request birth or marriage certificates directly from local archives.
When all documents are ready, we’ll confirm everything together. You’ll send us the originals, we’ll handle certified translations, double-check every detail, and prepare the complete application.
Then we submit it on your behalf – and we stay in touch with the authorities throughout the process to keep things moving smoothly.
After your citizenship is confirmed, we’ll help you register with the Special Registry in Brno, so you can receive your Czech birth certificate.
From there, you can apply for a Czech passport or ID. Done and dusted!
FAQ
Got questions about obtaining Czech citizenship? Check out the most frequent ones.
Is my wife/husband also eligible?
Your spouse is usually not eligible for Czech citizenship. But they could gain EU residency benefits and may be eligible to reside in the Czech Republic or EU under simplified conditions as a family member of a Czech citizen, and could also benefit from simplified requirements if she applies for Czech citizenship through the ordinary naturalization process.
What needs to be registered with the Special Registry in Brno?
At minimum, your child’s birth must be registered. If applicable, their marriage or divorce as well.
In some cases, it may also be necessary to register the parents’ marriage.
How long does the process take?
The timeline can vary depending on several factors. On your side, it depends on how quickly you can gather and submit the necessary documents—some of which may need to be apostilled, officially translated, or have a certified signature.
Once the application is submitted, the relevant authorities have different deadlines depending on the specific case and what needs to be addressed. However, in our experience, the overall process typically takes between 6 months to 1 year, mainly due to the time required to search for records in archives and other administrative tasks.
Does my child need to speak Czech to get citizenship?
No — knowledge of Czech is not required for claiming Czech citizenship based on ancestry. What matters are the documents proving your child’s Czech origin, not their language skills.
Can you apply for my child's Czech passport?
No — this part must be done in person, either in the Czech Republic or at a Czech embassy. But don’t worry: we’ll provide you with clear guidance on how and where to apply, so you can choose the option most convenient for you and your family.
Why Choose Czechwise?
Applying through ancestry can be complex. These are the strengths that make the difference.
