Two siblings from the United States began with a simple question about their Czech ancestry, unsure how their family history might translate into a modern citizenship claim. Born Before, Born After: Finding Citizenship Eligibility for Each Sibling
As we prepared the applications, a particular question emerged regarding the family’s two different timelines. One sibling was born several years before their father’s naturalization in the United States. The other was born after that naturalization had taken place.
To ensure absolute certainty as to how to proceed, we consulted directly with the Czech Citizenship Office. After clarifying the situation with them, we were able to offer the family a clear and unified path forward, ensuring that all three applications could be prepared correctly.
Building the Foundation for Three Applications
To proceed, the family first needed an official duplicate of their father’s Czech birth certificate from Karlovy Vary. We secured this essential document, which served as the basis for all three applications.

All three applications were approved, and each family member received a formal decision confirming their eligibility for Czech citizenship. The final administrative step involved registering their vital records with the Special Registry, a ten-month process that resulted in complete Czech documentation for all applicants. With these records in place, each family member had everything required to apply for a Czech passport.
