Czech Ancestry in Moravia
The applicant’s family history begins in Moravia, a region that is now part of the Czech Republic. We traced the client’s grandfather to South Moravia, where he was born in 1894, at a time when the territory belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Empire. We also located official records concerning his marriage.
Following the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918, client’s grandfather became a Czechoslovak citizen.
Because the case reached far back into history, we first decided to confirm the grandfather’s Czechoslovak citizenship status before proceeding with the client’s own Czech citizenship application. With official confirmation secured, we were able to move forward confidently.
In this specific case, we obtained confirmation of citizenship without the original naturalization certificate. Instead, we relied on the grandfather’s naturalization petition, his naturalization card, and an official archive confirmation of the exact date of naturalization.
Emigration to the United States
In the early 1920s, the grandfather emigrated to the United States, as many families with Czechoslovak roots did during that period. He settled permanently overseas and became a US citizen in 1929, which affected his Czechoslovak citizenship. However, before his naturalization in the United States, he had already passed his Czechoslovak citizenship to his daughter, the client’s mother.
No Czech Citizenship by Birth, but by Descent
Unfortunately, at the time the client was born, the applicable citizenship laws did not allow him to automatically inherit Czech citizenship.
Nevertheless, we identified and documented his entitlement to Czech citizenship by descent, based on the historical loss of Czechoslovak citizenship by his grandfather and subsequent legislative developments. The process has now been successfully finalized.
