Confirming citizenship through her mother
After reviewing her family’s circumstances and documents, we confirmed that our client had been a Czech citizen since birth. She therefore did not need to acquire citizenship through a declaration or another ancestry-based route. What she needed was to document her existing citizenship and have her birth registered in the Czech Republic.
This distinction is easy to miss: being born abroad does not necessarily mean that you need to become a Czech citizen. You may already be one.
Handling the process while she lived in Germany
The family had the records needed for the application, so there was no need for extensive archival research. We prepared the application and handled the Czech side of the process on our client’s behalf.
Although she was living in Germany at the time of the application, we were able to coordinate the necessary steps and complete the process for her.
A Czech birth certificate in approximately three months
Around three months passed between receiving the necessary documents and the issuance of her Czech birth certificate. Having the relevant family records available helped keep the process moving.
Every case depends on its own circumstances, but this client’s experience shows that obtaining Czech documents can be manageable even when you were born in one country and now live in another.
Were you born abroad to a Czech parent?
If you are unsure whether you already hold Czech citizenship, we can review your family circumstances and available documents, clarify your status, and help you take the next steps.
