The story begins in Czechoslovakia. The client’s father was born in 1968 in what the Czech Republic is now. As a young man, he emigrated and later built his life in North America.
In the 1980s, he settled in Canada, where he married. The couple later lived in both Canada and the United States. Years afterwards, he also became a U.S. citizen through naturalization.
Despite decades abroad and the acquisition of additional citizenships, he never lost his Czech citizenship.
His daughter was born outside the Czech Republic and approach us with a wish to reclaim her Czech citizenship..
Assessment of Czech Citizenship Claim
The key question was whether the client had acquired Czech citizenship automatically through her father at birth. The situation was complicated by the fact that she was already a dual citizen of the United States and Canada. The basis on which she had acquired Canadian citizenship was not initially clear, and this could have affected the assessment of potential loss of Czech citizenship under the laws applicable at the time.
To resolve this, we carefully reviewed the relevant historical citizenship legislation, obtained additional supporting documents from the client, and consulted with the competent Citizenship Office. This thorough analysis allowed us to clarify the situation and confirm the correct path forward.
